Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram is a specialized ultrasound used to evaluate the heart. It provides real-time, moving images of the heart’s structure and function, allowing veterinarians to assess heart health and function without invasive procedures.
A small ultrasound probe is placed against the pet’s chest, sending sound waves into the body. These waves bounce back, creating detailed images of the heart. This allows us to evaluate the heart’s chambers and valves for abnormalities like thickened walls or leaks, assess blood flow for potential blockages, and measure overall heart function—particularly how efficiently it pumps blood.
An echocardiogram is commonly performed to diagnose heart disease, congenital defects, or fluid buildup around the heart. It helps us determine the best treatment plan - whether its medication, lifestyle adjustment, or further interventions.
This gentle and non-invasive procedure provides essential information about heart conditions, supporting your pet’s health and ensuring you can spend as much time together as possible.
