Endocrine Disorders
Endocrine Disorders affect your pet’s hormone-producing glands, impacting everything from metabolism to energy levels. If you notice unusual changes in your pet’s appetite, energy, or appearance, our team is here to help.
Common conditions include:
Canine Hypothyroidism - a dog’s thyroid gland isn’t making enough hormone, which slows down their metabolism
Feline Hyperthyroidism - a cat’s thyroid gland makes too much hormone, speeding up your their metabolism
Canine Hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing’s Disease) - a dog’s body makes too much cortisol, a stress hormone, which affects many organs
Canine Hypoadrenocorticism (Addison’s Disease) - a dog’s adrenal glands don’t make enough hormones, which can affect salt balance and stress response
Diabetes Mellitus (both dogs and cats) - the body can’t properly use sugar for energy because it doesn’t make enough insulin
Diagnostics generally include blood tests, urine tests, and sometimes ultrasound.
Treatment usually includes medication or injections and special diets. Feline hyperthyroidism can be treated with a one time, radioactive iodine treatment as a cure.
