Infectious Diseases

Infectious Diseases are caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites that can make your pet seriously ill. Our team specializes in identifying and managing these complex cases, especially when symptoms are vague or don’t respond to standard treatment.

Examples include:

  • FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) - a viral disease caused by a mutation of the feline coronavirus with symptoms including fever, weight loss, fluid buildup, and neurological signs

  • Leptospirosis (Dogs) - a bacterial infection spread through contaminated water or infected animal urine

  • Fungal Infections (Blastomycosis, Histoplasmosis) - inhaled fungal spores that spread through the lungs and body causing illness

  • Tick-Borne Illness (Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, Lyme Disease) - bacterial infections spread by ticks and causing fever, joint pain, lethargy, and low platelet count

Diagnostics commonly include bloodwork, urine tests, X-rays, and cytology or biopsy.

Treatment often includes medications, hospitalization and IV fluids, and pain management including supportive care and monitoring.

Some infectious diseases are easily treated, while others are more serious and require long-term care. No matter the diagnosis, our team is here to support you and your pet every step of the way.
