Liver Disease
Liver Disease affects a vital organ that plays a key role in digestion, detoxification, and metabolism. When it’s not working properly, your pet may show signs like tiredness, vomiting, or poor appetite - making early diagnosis especially important.
Conditions include:
Hepatitis - inflammation of the liver caused by infection, toxins, or the immune system attacking the liver
Feline Hepatic Lipidosis (Fatty Liver in Cats) - a serious condition where fat builds up in the liver, often after a period of not eating
Liver Shunts (Portosystemic Shunts) - a birth defect or acquired condition where blood bypasses the liver, preventing it from filtering toxins
Cirrhosis or End Stage Liver Disease - long-term liver damage leads to scarring and loss of function
Diagnostics commonly include bloodwork and imaging such as MRI or CT scan, and guided liver sampling.
Treatment often includes medications, nutritional support, and sometimes surgery.
